timing is flexible

best time to dive Cathedral would be about 19:30 for slack water

if people want to come early for a first dive before that it would be fine

no night diving is allowed from the harbour so a much later dive may not be an option

shog69
21-07-07, 22:41
I'd probably be down there for around 6 ish if i get away from work at my normal friday time of around 4ish

the weather (http://www.metcheck.com/V40/UK/FREE/dayforecast.asp?zipcode=Eyemouth&day=6) looks not too bad for friday but a bit far away to be accurate.
this link will update every 4 hours or so, so keep clicking...

and another to double check with (http://www.windguru.cz/int/index.php?sc=47830)

What time do people want to meet at?

LW is at 19:46 so if people want to dive Cathedral Rock I would suggest splashing at 19:30 to be able to get some time within the arch at slack water.

Shog69 suggested meeting just after 6pm. This would allow a first dive - say looking for the elusive anglerfish - followed by a 2nd dive to CR.

Night diving isn't allowed from the harbour, so I don't know if there would be time to get a dive after the CR one.

When would you lot be able to get to St Abbs?

I'll PM those of you who I don't have contact numbers for in case things change on the day.

charlie
25-07-07, 20:20
I hope to arrive just after 6. I'm bringing a buddy, so if you all arrive before me & are desperate to get in, don't feel that you have to wait. I aim to get a dive on arrival & then CR at about 19:30.

That's the plan at the moment but you know what happens to the best made plans...

weather forecast looks OK for tonight: clear skies + westerly winds should (fingers crossed) allow some good diving conditions :)

See you all at St Abbs Harbour at about 6pm :D

this is only the 2nd time i have dived St. Abbs.
thanks for the encouragement to go in for the 2nd dive, i was thinking about going to the pub after the first dive.
not that it was a bad dive, just getting late.
we managed to hit cathedral rock on the first dive after doing little green car, more by fluke than navigation i must admit.
Charlie navigated us on the 2nd dive out to cathedral rock & back safely (cheers Charlie). my torch battery went flat 10 minutes after i gave away my back-up to Fran, my other 2 back-ups failed, new batteries tomorrow i guess!
cheers for the dive folks & always nice to meet new faces. :)

nice to meet everyone again.

another big thank you to Elaine for driving us home

Cheers Andy for the dives even though you were frozen ,i think you may need to oil your compass though, that way it might slip into the bucket easier :D

I'm looking forward to seeing the photos of the wolffish

We had a good hunt for the anglerfish on our 1st dive, but to no avail :o We went through the gully beside Broad Craig, then over to Little Green Carr. At this point, Frazer and I became separated from regthing & shog69 (they were busy taking photos and lost sight of us). Frazer & I continued on to Big Green Carr & circumnavigated it before coming up at the exit point.

My attempt at repairing my drysuit zip had been an abject failure: wetter than I've ever been.

Our 2nd dive (to CR) was particularly good as it was getting pretty dark underwater, meaning that lots of critters were coming out to play.

Spotted several of these little guys:

yeah, it was on our dive together: that's why I held you all up for a few minutes... I was desperate to get a semi decent photo of one of a Yarrell's blenny though

I think that he was probably pretty fed up with me: he just thought that he was going for a quiet Friday night out only to get the paparazzi flashing away at his wee eyes: poor fella! :o

yup, thats when i thought it was, it was worth the wait though going by the results.
Fran & myself were watching a territorial fight between a lobster & a ling while we waited.

library pic of a ling, Fran thought was a conger as did i at first until i seen the tail.
