Hello Folks

My mum has given me the task of finding her and my dad some lightweight fins for their annual trip to the Maldives....to snorkel!

Any tips (mucho appreciated), they must be full foot & erm lightweight for travel..

Thanks :D

Hi - you can't go wrong with Mares Avanti - they are also good for diving if they decide to go for it.

Full foot or straps?

The full foot avanti plana HP are fairly light and perform well for snorkelling, free diving and scuba - you don't want to use the really cheap plastic fins for snorkelling as they are too light and will break the water if you are snorkelling on the surface. I think I might have a spare pair kicking about if you want to buy them.

Why not just use fins from dive centre when you get there?:)

Yes I know but mum has had a major back op (aren't they all?) and there is no way she could carry kit no matter how short a distance....so snorkelling it is. Plus she suffers from claustophobia.......getting a mask on for snorkelling is a BIG thing for her

Because apparently they are crap!

Yes, I'll be taking my Mares Avanti Quattros with me - unless I don't and just use hire kit - check weight allowance - did I mention I am going to the Maldives later in the year :D

They might be crap for the diving Gods who frequent this site but are a couple of non divers who want to do a bit of snorkellng really going to notice the difference? I think not.

Unless you want to snaffle them when they get back I don't see the point in spending that much money and extra bulk to carry.
