Has anyone dived down at Portpatrick. I hear it is good with a great campsite and good diving suitable for all levels?

Yo DG,

I spent a year working in D&G in 2003, and met up with some of the guys from clubs in Dumfries and Newton Stewart. They all dive up here in the Clyde, Loch Fyne etc. because the Solway is so shallow. So, as far as I know, there isn't much of interest down there, just mudflats.

Have a look in Clyde Wrecks by Moir & Crawford. There is a chapter on the area.

Never actually dived at/out of Port Patrick but spent a couple of seasons diving from a rib out of Port Logan not far away. The inshore wrecks are shallow and well smashed up. Ridley's book Dive West Scotland list's quite a lot of dive sites and wrecks around that area of Portpatrick.
Theres a shore dive mentioned from Ridleys book Portpatrick Depth 15m NW982560 although I've never done it. Portpatrick's nice but can get pretty busy with boating/yatching traffic.

I've a couple of shore dives in the log book one out of Port logan, max depth 14m which means at bit of a clamber down the rocks and one just around the corner from the Mull of Galloway.( although the latter theres now questions over the access) .

To follow on from Gords comments, theres a few of the local branches ie Newton Stewart dive off that coast around the Isle of Whithorn.:)Theres an interesting book Dumfries and Galloway Shipwrecks by Peter Miller illustrates just what "is" out there.
