I splashed out and bought myself a Fuji F31fd on fleabay for £120 (unwanted gift so was brand new). Then I got myself a Fuji underwater housing for £130 and a 2Gb memory card for £30.
Anyhoo, I got a dive in tonight (Thursday) at the wrecks in Gaerlochhead. Didn't find the wrecks though :( but we did find some interesting starfish and a lot of them.

"And now I've got macro! And focus!!!" From Scuba-Doh,
Thats cheating! No guess work or getting "close but not too close"! Neat pics tho'.:D
Can you send me the first pic for the Id page on finstrokes. I dont have that starfish. And if you have any goodness in your heart do some research on the net and come up with a description like here.

That's what I thought when I first saw them. I'll need to investigate.

Freaky ain't the half of it! I was contemplating that these were in fact aliens from War of the World. I'll upload the video of these things moving to youtube. Not your average 2cm/hr starfish movement.

Ding, you can download the original by clicking on the image and then "All sizes" above the image on the flickr page.

I know :p Note to self, never buy a fixed focus camera again.
Just found it in the book - I think it might be a Ophiura ophiura (no common name). Look forward to seeing the video, I'm petrified of things that look like that and move fast (like spiders)

Well done Shmeeg, it is a Ophiura ophiura, common name Serpent Star, a type of Brittle star.

Very well done Scuba Doh for spotting it.
Was hard to miss, must have seen at least 20 full size starfish and quite a few had tiny ones close to had. We had more trouble spotting the wrecks ;)
never seen them before & don't they move fast ehh?
remembers me of the 'face hugger's' from the 'Alien's films'
well captured. ;)

I'll be honest, that's exactly what was going through my mind at the time.

so none of them dived on your buddy, wrestled over his face & puched its way out of his chest?
damn, that would have made a good video :p

they could be what is lurking in the feet of his dry suit, and making them all floaty!
