View Full Version : More pony help required.
ok so got the t52,pony and nd clamp, firstly do the 2 steel bands go round the pony, and the bcd tank strap through the other half. Secondly any advice on how high i should position the pony bottle? thirdly what is an MDE valve and why on earth send me the pony with one of these!
You wanna see what im like with flat pack furniture!!
Thanks Gedan:confused:
Yes and yes to the first two questions.
Position of the pony is entirely your preference, I have mine quite high, just slightly higher than my main bottle, dont know why it just sits nice there.
MDE valve is just you standard valve? what else are you looking for? (most cylinders come with a valve, MDE is just the make :confused)
MDE (http://www.midlanddiving.com/catalog/) is probably one of the best makers of valves.
keeping both pillar valves at the same height is generally the normal.
sometimes have to jig things around depending on the size of your main cylinder verses the clamp position.
looking to ideally have the clamp in the middle of your pony.

I will get someone to take a picture of mine on sunday for ya!
hi
The steel bands go round the pony, take extra care with the rubber isolators, and the screw so as to position the clamp in the right place.
I have my pony valve slightly lower than that off my main cylinder valve, I find it helps with the routing of hoses (another thing I learned from ice diving).
A MDE vale is just the make. Normally you get the pillar valve with a 25mm thread, and a insert. The insert is for using with A-clamp 1st stage regulators, and with the insert removed it is for DIN fittings.
See http://www.nigelhewitt.co.uk/diving/din.html for info regarding DIN fittings.
Taking plenty time to play with your set up, (on the kitchen table), with putting on and off your jacket, playing with the set up and routing of hoses, position of cylinder and the balancing of your rig, will go a long way to being settled in the water. You can always get the lovely Shmeeg to help.

She,s actually far more competent at these things than me, comes from her chilled Kiwi nature. I wind up like the guy from chewing the fat that loses the plot.
Thanks for the info.

He only says that so that I wind up doing it, and then he can blame me when the whole thing falls apart.

I mounted my pony cylinder inverted (valve down) on the right hand side of my 15l. This way I have access to the valve to control free flows etc. by just reaching down and back. May need a slightly longer hose for the D.v though. It works pretty well for me. Will try and dig out some photos of the set.
