View Full Version : Catalina Island, USA
Hi, had a short dive yesterday in the US's oldest Marine reserve just off Catalina Island. Knew things were looking good when on the tender to shore from the Cruise ship the water went white with Anchovie hitting the surface, then 2 dolphins came up next circling, before darting through the baitball - with a harbour seal, where else, but in the harbour - it was looking good.
Nothing quite to so spectacular underwater, but pretty good anyway. My daughter and I went in in the old 2 piece 6mm wetsuits, water temp 19, viz 10m plus. Kelp forest offshore with lots and lots of fish. Main suspects were Garibaldi, Sheepheads and anchovies. A bat ray swam past at the edge of the kelp near the end. As I was keeping an eye on Jennifer I didn't dig atround the rocks much, but there were LOTS of fish. Will post some piccies when I am back. Not enough time to dive in Ensenada, Mexico today and looks like I am cancelling Monterey as they don't have a small enough suit for Jennifer - a bit of cayaking amongst the seals and sea otters then!

Peter, you should have got Jennifer to post, her telephone call made the dive sound a helluva lot more interesting. You are playing it down or you cant be bothered.
Glad you had a good dive, the good news is I am only managing to squeeze 1 days diving in without you, however Dan is coming :D
We should get to do Dunbar Harbour when you get back as the bridge is due to be opened end of the month. A nice evening dive with some CA members me thinks!!
Have a nice time Mexico and dont forget to take plenty of pictures of the train and route, including the stations on your trek across the states. See you guys in a couple of weeks!

It's very late here - wait till you see the pictures - there were a hell of a lot of fish down there!
