View Full Version : Do you want a smut-fest?

As there now appears to be a few here who enjoy a bit of innuendo and smut, would it be worth having a separate area to allow those who enjoy it to use it, without fear of upsetting/annoying anyone else.

If its suitable titled then those that dont want to read it dont have to read it.

PS what happened to extra smilies??????????????

EDIT.

Agree.

Thought it would be better to add a poll?

Although I'm wondering if this shuoldn't be a separate forum altogether ...?

(which I would happily set up if enough people wanted it ... with its own URL etc ....)

So I'll offer several choices, and you can tick multiple options.

(btw, if a new smut-filled subforum of Stoney Cove were to be set up, I would make it not appear on the "latest threads" module of the home page and make it "members" only ...

Excellent, a Members Only section - that makes it sound far more sordid than it actually is!

Horrified, Edinburgh

PS - I basically don't really care, I have no problems with the current line of innuendo, etc. However as this is an open forum which younger divers may read, then Gord is probably considering where the line between "over their head" innuendo ends and vulgarity starts. My daughter is 11 and dives, although she has far more things to do with her time than read internet posts every day like her sad dad does! PS Even as a sad dad, I have more exciting things to do than looking at an innuendo web site or making the effort to go anywhere other than postings since last logged on section. Remember - doing it in secret will make it all the more embarrassing when you are discovered - ooh-er! :o

I'm all for a bit of humour.

However, private non-subject chit chat that is blatantly rude and is happening on any post now because of a select few has detracted from this site for me which is why I've been posting somewhere else of late.

Get back to the diving. If you want to make your crap innuendos go somewhere else. The smutty posts sound just like the type of chat you get from divers who talk a lot about how fabulous their diving is yet they probably don't even know where their drysuit is.

I'm with Peter on this one (and Gogs and Gareth)

Im not really against or for, i just noticed that a few dont like when a few go over the top. If i had a job i wouldnt spend so much time reading here and there. :p

Well personally I don't mind, but then I suspect some of the complaint is aimed at me!
If I've overstepped anyones personal boundaries then sorry, although "get back to the diving" seems a bit off the mark when the only smutty comments I'm aware of are in a poll about what we have on chip suppers! hardly interrupting a treatise on the finer points of decompression theory is it!

Perhaps *any* non diving related stuff should be posted to Stoney Cove (or somewhere similar) where it can be read by those who like but not by those whom it may offend?

A bit of live and let live required I'd say... and once again, if you're genuinely upset then sorry.

ps. I know exactly where my drysuit is... just prefer to dive wet these days ;)

i think as long as any innuendos are in keeping with the thread & light hearted then no real harm done.
if anything verges on vulgarity or crosses the line, then the mods/admin warn the person & remove their post.
other than that, everything on open forum.
but if anyone wants a smutt section, im broad minded & have no objections, after all, the internet is full of far worse things.

p.s. if i have offended anyone, im not apologizing as no comment i have ever made was directly aimed at offending anyone, no matter how prudent they are. only humor :)

What Stewart said :D but I'll keep my apology standing because I don't intend people to be genuinely upset and if I've caused that then it's my manners to apologise. Good point though!

I agree with what Stewart has posted. If something is deemed to have crossed the line then the mods warn the poster and ask him/her to edit it. If the poster fails to edit it, it gets removed.

Likewise I don't feel I need to offer a blanket apology. If any of my more puerile posts (I can't help it, I'm a puerile sort of person!) were less than acceptable then nobody has been sufficiently offended to say so.

I'd agree with that - personally I haven't noticed anything here that has offended me (although that would take quite alot) - however I did think that what offends me isn't the mark that should be aimed at (or below) and we wouldn't want to scare off more sensitive souls from what is otherwise a diving forum.

Anyway, if I am looking for policitcally incorroect and offensive posts I simply go to SD and see what Davie is saying there :D

Looking a what has been said, an Adults Section would be more apt. I have seen on other forums where there are ladies only sections, (see steveCT's forum). To be allowed into the said section you have to be confirmed as an adult (yes, I know, thats gonna be hard around here!)

I dont have a problem with more "adult" conversations, although they need to be in the right place.

dont see the point really, there are plenty of other forums catering for that kind of stuff!

Try www.websponge.net , I frequent that now and again when I have a few hours to spare!

So am i correct in assessing the response as follows:

1) Keep all off-topic / humour in Stoney Cove.
2) Keep it clean.
3) Keep on-topic (i.e. diving!).

???

This would suit me best.

Yep thats me, just back from getting wet (ooer) with a young tart (getting dodgy!) (a Divetart that is {see Smudges signature and my profile and some others too!}) on the west coast. Now I'm back to work and she's off to Elie to get wet again with some other tarts ( censuring coming up! Ooops not again!) (Divetarts that is ). We dive through the week coz we have jobs that dictate so, and I hear the question "Wots this about Divetarts?" well the Divetarts are a small ,but growing, group of like-minded divers who really dont care who we dive with at all (safety etc taken care of , of course) and open our dives to any and all hence ...TARTS. Now in the general scheme of things there are a lot of phrases, comments etc that can be taken, by some (who perhaps should stick to their Hymn books), to be smutty and yet be perfectly honest and upright (there I go again!) comments used by Oh, divers every day;
You get wet today?*** Who'd you go down with!' ***I managed 40mins today with just a stop for 3 mins!***Show us your kit!!

Come on, a little light relief (oops!) is all we're after here after a mild reversed finger pointing at Death!

I'm the TART that was away with Tramp, and must say if I've offended anyone I'd hope they would have the decency to say so to me and not generalise their rant to everyone...but to be honest I was just carrying on from what had been already been started. Not an excuse some might say but I wasn't being smutty on purpose.

I have met some folk who take themselves to seriously and really need to lighten up a little - life ain't no dress rehearsal! - so as Tramp said, DIVETARTS is a poke (no smut intended) at the perils of diving. We go away for a night or two, get wet (sorry...) and generally laugh lots at each other (or me...) anyone can join us as long as you don't mind gentle/hard leg pulling, smutty jokes, drinking and erm DIVING!! We look out for each other and are one big happy family - eh DAD?

If it makes people happier then have a seperate smut section where we can all get as dirty as we like and any threads from it don't come up on the homepage. But just mind that one day you may actually meet someone (if not already know them) you've been smutty with..... :D

And this is the from the guy who actively promotes the words "no muff to tough" for the boys & "dive site" (with a thumbs down) for the girls..... on t-shirts.

What exactly is the difference?

Rising to the bait perhaps....

As for the T-shirts, I don't come on here actively promoting them so it's not like I go about bringing my style to this forum or thousands of other people. But cutting to the chase this isn't about the T-shirts, or the fact that I fully admit I'm as smutty as you or any of the other 'Dive Tarts'. The difference is that this is a public domain forum and I disagree that many of the posts, allbeit they are generally non-diving, degrade into Sid James style smut. It's my opinion. I get to say it cos this is a forum and if I wasn't on an oil rig I would have quite happily told you in the pub. It's not up to me how this forum is run. So nobody needs to adhere to my views. I didn't mention any names so I'm not out to be vindictive, nor am I trying to hide behind the text of a forum post. Also, even though I have a lot of respect for certain divers I implied in the original post, and they have plenty of good diving chat to offer a forum like this. If they want to talk aboout twiddling knobs and so on, then that's their call. But I still get to say 'Cut the crap and get back to the diving'. Whether you take it as a personal jibe or not is your/their call to make. It doesn't change the fact I would still dive with you/them any day of the week or have drinks in a pub.

Personally, I'm not offended by the smutty posts, I just think others might be. As for the comment about the drysuit... read my post. I didn't say you didn't know where to find it.

Jeana... I see the replies posted. I know which apple carts I upset. Nothing unexpected... :)

Well I'll rise to the bait then, assuming this was baiting on your part?

Whether it's a forum read by a couple of hundred (mainly adult) people or walking down Anstruther sea front, both have the potential to offend people, personally I don't see your distinction between wearing a *potentially* offensive slogan or posting on a somewhat lighthearted forum. Both are very much "public domain" and both are highly likely to offend someone.
But like you say this is a *forum* and I'm sure we can both hold differing opinions without throwing teddies out the pram...
The drysuit comment I chose to ignore, I thought it was a somewhat irrelevant and unneccessary dig which appeared to be aimed at no-one in particular, but I fail to see how it added anything to your argument.
As for your last sentence, I can assure you my apple cart is intact, but saying "...I see the replies posted. I know which apple carts I upset. Nothing unexpected... :) " reads as either deliberately provocative or smug or both and I would hope that is not your intention?
Anyway, stay safe out on the briney and I'll hopefully see you at a good divesite sometime soon :)

Smudge,

Out of all the people I hoped would not take this as a personal dig it would be you.... and the quote about 'Rising to the bait' was directed at myself for replying to Jeana.

Sorry. But I think there is a difference between posting lewd comments on a forum and wearing a barely legible t-shirt. Both of which use a similar type of humour.

But like I say. Nobody has to abide by my views.

This is obviously now a personal issue which I'd rather not play out on a forum so I'll grab you for a chat when I get back.

Cheers
Nick

p.s. As for being smug or prevocative. Neither. I'm just a diver with a point of view.

my my who's getting their knickers in a twist...

Didn't say you were actively promoting your t-shirts, I was just using that as an example that smut is everywhere intentionaly or not. I didn't write things to be deliberately offensive, was just carrying on what had been said (and how else are you gonna describe turning your air on - its a knob which happens to be turned to switch it on)

Am not taking anything personally, just putting my view across just like everyone else and trying to explain

Missed this as I was in Malta:D As one of the older members (ok maybe the oldest:D ) of the forum i must say i am pretty broad minded when it comes to 'jokes' and innuendo. If I don't like something I just don't respond to it. If I was really offended by something I would let the Mods know.:)
