Headed down to St Abbs again on Peter Gibsons MV Selkie.
It looked misty and sea was ok apart from a slight swell, we were concerned given the weak of weather we had but it turned out OK. Dropped us of at West Hurker and did the swim through, although it was like a washing machine, viz was good and once through we decided to hug the rocks and not go too deep as Peter's reg was bubbling yet again.
Loads of pipefish and 4 or 5 friendly wrasse accompanying us most of the way through the dive. Quite a few lobsters, the usual squatties, edibles and velvets. Life was looking pretty healthy down there.
Managed to stay down for the full duration stipulated by Peter G, and headed up with PeterM on 40bar. 50minutes dive time with max depth of 14m, loverly.
Rocked and rolled back in the have some lunch and change cylinders.
I managed to get some sunbathing with the undersuit down at my waist and lying down on the harbour wall, although could relax as was waiting on the push in the water or water splashed on me or something just as devious.
After stuffing my face and the sunbathing headed back to the boat for dive 2, this time we got took out to Ebb Carr. There is remnants of a wreck at this site although on previous dives I have not managed to find the boilers or the leusive gold (another of PeterG's stories!). This dive we did find the propeller and it is easily 10-12ft in diameter, fantastic!! AS well as more pipefish, some wrasse and the usual crustaceans and rock/seabed coverings. We also seen something that looked like either a juvenile conger or juvenile wolffish.
Again down for 50 minutes max depth of 18m, swell nwhere near the levels on the first dive. On to the boat for the usually awaiting you cup of great tea from PeterG. PeterM wasnt my buddy this time so didnt have to worry about leaks. Found an almost new mask too, so if noone PM's me telling me they lost this type of mask at ebb carr its mine :D
Thanks to Leigh for being my buddy on the second dive and thanks to PeterG for his services yet again!

doing our nitrox course in eyemoth next weekend, always enjoy diving around there. There's a lot to be said for the marine reserve.

Good report. I'm keen to go back to St Abbs again - having only dived it once.

PADI say to leave only bubbles and I feel some of them should be fresh, not already used!

Anyone know how to fix an Apex ATX50. The reg cover is pressing down on the diaphram putting slight pressure on the lever. causing the reg to leak constantly.

I have "resolved" the problem by unscrewing the diaphram cover a turn. However this is clearly not a proper resolution, although I have done this for about a year before and it was fine. I could take it back to the shop, but it was serviced recently enough that I don't want to pay again, but sufficiently long ago that I can't point to the service as the problem.

I get that problem with mine, i fine taking the cover off, removing the diaphram from the front and the small outlet one at the bottom, rinising it all in water, drying and re-assembling 9 times out of 10 cures it. It only needs smallest bit of muck in the threads of the front cover to cause it to leak. If that doesnt work i just unscrew it abit, as you said.:D Apparently they will work with no cover on them.

no point having a big wad of cash in your wallet in the glove box of your car.
when you are at 30m & the 5h1t hits the fan.

how much is your life worth

I concur with stewpot.

Took my regs back to FYM a couple of months ago because I was a bit concerned some oscillation in the 1st stage. He stripped them down & replaced o-rings while I watched. No charge.

I guess you might incur a small charge wherever you take yours, Peter, but it's unlikely to be too painful.

About 300 or so quid for a couple of nice new atx 50 and 40 2nd stages with hoses. As my wallet found out this morning.

Whoever said thats it i dont need any more kit was a blatent liar. How do you married people get away with it

Is that why the coffee table and washing machine are going down under

Rinsed it all, but doesn't seem to be dirt.

To combine the threads above, if I don't waste money servicing life sustaining equipment my wife will have more cash when it kills me - logic, it's all very straight forward. :p

For all you worry beatles out there - I am passing my regs to Chris this week to drop off at EDC while I am on holidays to make sure I don't die unnecessarily next dive. ;)
