Does anyone know of any good shore dives in Arran?. I'm there for a week in July with the family, staying at Shiskine on the SW tip of the island. I hope to join the Arran Scot SAC divers on their Sunday two dive trip by RIB from Lamlash, but was wondering about also doing a couple of evening dives from the shore.

Well,
Ive got the 'dive west scotland' book and it contains arran....
lets see...
It does say that most diving is done by rib as accesss to the shore is limited.

A dive site called 'corriegills point' is a shore dive. last turning on the left before you leave brodick, 10m, best dived just after high tide. swim out against current and allow it to drift you back in. rocky canyons. you will see anemones, soft corals, crabs, squatties, wrasse.

Hamilton rock too. best dived from rib but can be dived from shore. 15m. SW of clauchlands point. take care with the current flowing out to lamlash bay. should be dived 1-2hrs after high tide. dive an anticlockwise direction from the current. kelp covered boulders and sandy sea bed. you will see the usal bits n bobs mentioned above.

Imachar point. most westernly point on island on the north west. on a841. 15m. access from shore in the clearing at the edge of the road before the road turns away from shore and continues up the hill. dive at high tide. boulder scree with sandy pattches. rocks topped with kelp. always large schools of fish on this dive, dogfish too. also see scallops, flatfish, and poss angler fish.

Thats it according to my book.... not that everyting written down will be true!

Hope thats helpful!

The book is wrong, corriegills point you have to drive up the hill
and park and walk the rest of the way with you kit and even harder getting
in the water.

Hamilton rock is a great site but no way from the shore you have park the car
at the gate and walk through a dirttrack for about 15mins or more with your dive kit and also climb over loads of boulders to get in the water and at high tide is only about 8 or 9m.

Imachar point you park the car next to the road walk over rock and boulders
and swim out a good bit to get about 6m and you dont see anything.
