Here are some images I took in Loch Fyne over the weekend. I am just starting out so any comments are most welcome. I have photoshopped the dogfish pic as I think I need to adjust the white balance on my camera (pic was at 20m) I have posted the original as well.

This one I have removed some of the green as it was originally as below.

Neat photos, shmeeg, like the "red-eye" on the crab. Seriously tho' it's not as easy as some CA'rs make it look huh? Have you seen my photos? The big one was brought over in the same application but blew-up when posted!:)

We really do need a Flash in Scottish waters, theres no other way to get great shots like yours of the Red Sea unless we get all our mates to shine their lights on our targets! (like thats gonna happen! ). ps its 2 r's, Darryl. cheers.

PeterM and I have a good cheap set up, We have a simple sony digital camera and housing and no flash, basically whoever doesnt have the camera, uses there torch to illuminate the subject. Sometimes you get a bright spot, but we are working on that and improving it with the photos we take. Would like to invest in a strobe or flashgun at some point but dont take it too seriously and would rather spend the money on diving!

My Light Cannon just arrived today :D and it came with 2 wide angle diffusers for video camera use. Basically 2 frosted bits of thin plastic sheet. I tried it on my wall and it makes a good job of removing the spot. Probably very usefull for stills as well.

They must be able to be bought seperately, or made....

If anyone finds out where to buy them separately, let me know. I lost a set of mine and had to steal GG's to use instead as I use it as a video light (GG doesn't know that but I guess he will now!)

This isnt a joke.

Have you tried making one out of a opaque milk carton (whatever happened to bottles)

The ones that came with my still camera housing were pretty much the same opaqueness ?? as a milk carton.

I've made one of those for my D4R but haven't used it in the water yet. Was slightly worried that it might overheat & release some nasty smoke that would knacker the torch. I may try making one with tabs & fix it to the exterior of the bezel.

I like that idea.

The ones UK supply have to be fitted between the lense and the reflector, i.e. take the torch apart. So you would have to go the whole dive diffused (we'll your mates without the camera would) which sort of takes the "shine" off their dive

At least the bottom of a milk carton can be chucked on only when needed.

If its for a still camera you can cut a rectangle with a hole in it that fits snugly round the lense part but covers the flash, then turn the flash on an it will be difussed, at least that is the theory.

Well actually, I'm using a Ikelite DS125 strobe with it's own diffuser.... :p :D

But a diffused torch light from a buddy would be good at deeper darker depths.

I made my own underwater housing from my old torch (beaver nova light) i stripped out the guts battery/lens etc and a small video camera fit's inside,as does a kilo of shot for weight and an old sponge to hold the camera.

Only downsides are i have to press record then fit the camera into the torch (serious editing required) and i have no viewfinder so it's point and hope,i used it at furnace quarry a couple of weeks back and was surprised at how good it worked :D.I too have the problem with the hotspot as my darkbuster is too bright for it even with the diffuser fitted.

Loudy331, try a circular piece of tape stuck right in the centre of the lamp lens (on the outside) and dont switch it on til you're under just in case it gets hot. That should take some of the hot focus out of the beam!;)

I know what you mean, it took me ages to figure out that you have to resize the photo before putting it onto photobucket.

I used a strobe with a diffuser but I think that I'll have to turn the power up on the strobe for deeper water and I might try removing the diffuser. I have put a piece of black tape over the flash on the camera to get rid of backscatter which seems to work, but maybe that is fooling the camera into under exposing.

I tried removing the diffuser on Saturday and got a bright spot :(

I'll need to reduce the shutter speed at depth me thinks.

find a tube light shade, or the ones you get in office suspended ceilings etc.
these are loaded with small diamond/pinnacle patteren & disperse light evenly, this is why offices are evenly lit with no hot spots.
